Rick Scott is Afraid to Debate Because He Can’t Defend His Record

Government and Politics

Scott’s Plans to Gut Social Security and Medicare, Raise Taxes on Working Families, and Ban Abortion Are Deeply Unpopular

On Sep 4th, the Debbie Mucarsel-Powell campaign announced they’ve agreed to three televised debates. Meanwhile, Rick Scott has ignored the debate invitations and hasn’t done a sit-down interview in Florida since June. Scott’s strategy is simple: he’s dodging the debates because he can’t defend his record.

Scott’s plan to end Social Security and Medicare as we know them and raise taxes on the middle class, his support for Florida’s extreme abortion ban, and his attacks on contraception and IVF are wildly out-of-step with Floridians. Being held accountable on live TV would be a nightmare for Scott.

See below for just a few of the questions Scott is scared to answer:

  • What do you say to pregnant women in Florida who’ve been denied health care because of the abortion ban you endorsed

  • Did you think you could get away with voting against protecting access to IVF treatment and then lying about it?

  • What do you say to the millions of Florida seniors whose livelihoods would be threatened by your plan to end Social Security and Medicare as we know them?

You “took responsibility” for overseeing the largest Medicare fraud, but now you call it “political persecution.” Did you think Floridians would forget?
