Easy Rider, written by stars Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, with direction from Hopper as well, is the quintessential counterculture road movie. The ride is soundtracked by Steppenwolf, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix and other 60s rockers. Sometimes reflective, sometimes dark, Easy Rider looks at the changing American landscape as the 1960s rolled into the 1970s.

Two unnamed street racers driving a modified sleeper Chevrolet 150 challenge the driver of a GTO to a cross-country road race from New Mexico to Washington, D.C,. with the winner getting the loser's car. A car-hopping hitchhiker throws a wrench into the race as the drivers scrape for money, food, and gasoline.
