MARYLAND COMMUNITY THEATRE FESTIVAL 2024

RLT will once again participate in the Maryland Community Theatre Festival held on January 12-14 at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD. Our entry this year is an original one-act play “Funeral for the Cat” by local playwright B.G. Craig and directed by Vanessa Markowitz.

Synopsis:  Judy, a widow in her golden years, has invited her daughter and granddaughter to a funeral for her beloved and recently-departed cat. Family conflict ensues as Judy’s vision for the funeral unfolds. This dark comedy features four women and explores themes of grief, family, spirituality, and peeing in your enemy’s shoes.

The play was previously produced for the Silver Spring Stage’s One-Act Contest. It features the acting talents of Cecily Norman, Charlotte Richesson, Marla Harper, and Emily Ray. Aaron Skolnik, who won Outstanding Stage Manager at the 2023 Festival, serves as Technical Director and Stage Manager. Our play will be performed on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. For information on how to attend the Festival and support RLT, please visit www.mctfa.org/.

“THE GRAPES OF WRATH” OPENS JANUARY 26

“The Grapes of Wrath” by Frank Galati from the novel by John Steinbeck will perform January 26 through February 4. This quintessential American story of hope and survival follows the Joad family’s epic journey from the dust bowl of Oklahoma to the promised land of California. A soaring affirmation of the human spirit, “The Grapes of Wrath” provides the perfect canvas for an examination of a nation in search of itself. We hope to see you at the show where you will also get to hear the announcement of our 2024-2025 season!

AUDITIONS FOR “MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS”

Auditions for the final show of our 76th season, “Murder on the Orient Express,” will take place on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 18 & 19 from 7:00-9:30 p.m. at the Pump House in Rockville, MD. The production will be produced by Teresa Gillcrist and directed by Laura W. Andruski.

From the playwright who brought us “Baskerville” comes another murderously fun ride! One of Agatha Christie’s greatest novels springs to life in this thrilling new stage adaptation by Ken Ludwig. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. By morning, an American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times and with his door locked from the inside. Was it the Colonel, the Countess, the American Traveler or the Russian Princess? Or perhaps it was the English Beauty, the American Assistant, the French Conductor or the Swedish Missionary. The eccentric collection of passengers become suspects and the world-famous detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer before he or she decides to strike again!
