Stick Fly Opens April 28
In the vein of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Blackish, family is universal. No matter the race, a family interacting under trying circumstances is timeless and relatable to everyone. As cast member Donta Hensley, who plays Flip, says “to see your own family members under imaginative circumstances, whether your family is with millions or flat out broke. The same issues exist.” Due to strong language and mature subject matter, this play is recommended for ages 15+.
Stick Fly is a moving and wickedly funny drama that invites the audience to peer into the vacation home and life of an affluent Black family as two brothers introduce their girlfriends to their parents for the first time — at the same time. The LeVays’ relaxing weekend takes a turn as family members clash during conversations about privilege and class and secrets unravel. As characters go through their revelations, Stick Fly shows the joys and struggles of family and the power of connection.
Stick Fly is directed by Kevin Sockwell and co-produced by Leena Dev and Anne Cary. Visit rlt-online.org for the complete list of the production team.
Stick Fly plays April 28 through May 7. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Individual tickets are $22. All performances are at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre located on the grounds of the Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, MD. Tickets are on sale now or by calling the box office at 204-3114-8690.

Synopsis of An Act of Murder: Tis the night before the Regionals and all through the house actors are stirring, or trying to. The final dress rehearsal of It’s Not Ibsen is all drama, none of it on the stage. The last-minute replacement can’t get off book, and the stage manager keeps missing cues. The director only has eyes (and hands) for her leading man. The rest of the cast does their best to get through rehearsal despite constant interruptions from the director’s estranged husband. Will It’s Not Ibsen see the stage or will the curtain come crashing down on someone?
