From: Santa Rosa County

The "When Disaster Strikes: Prepare, Act, Survive" course, scheduled for June 30- July 1, has been canceled due to a lack of interest and registrations.

The May 23-25 course is still open for registration. Interested community members are encouraged to register by Wed., May 17, online here. The class needs to have at least 25 registrants to be held.

The May course will be held from 6-10 p.m. each day, at the Santa Rosa County Emergency Operation Center, 4499 Pine Forest Rd. in Milton. The purpose of this course is to teach community members how to prepare, take action and rescue response during a disaster. The course is FREE and open to the public, 14 years of age and older. Minors, wishing to participate, will need to complete a medical treatment release form and have a responsible adult stay during the entire class.

The one-and-a-half-day course, equaling 12 hours of instruction with hands-on application, focuses on:

 - Developing the mindset to prepare, act and survive in a community disaster.
 - Using survival strategies to rescue and care for yourself, your family and your pets during the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
 - Assisting in the search, light rescue, care and safety of your neighbors.
