July 23- 24 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM: Needle Felted Figures on Wire Armature at Schoolhouse
In this class we will learn the basics of creating an aluminum wire armature, which will serve as the framework for a needle felted dog, cat, or other four-legged creature. I will teach my method for wrapping wool onto the armature for basic shaping. We will finish our creations by applying a colored topcoat and detailing the face, tail, and feet. Some experience needed.
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Capturing Shadows: Paper & Fabric Cyanotype Prints at Schoolhouse Tent
This workshop offers an introduction to the cyanotype printing process through photographic print methods. Participants will experiment with a combination of natural, foraged materials and manufactured objects to create a series of unique prints. Join us to learn the basics of capturing shadows through sun printing on both fabric and paper!

This songwriting class will meet you where you are - as a beginner, dabbler, or pro, we’ll workshop through tips, exercises, and self-editing tools to help you bring your lyrics and music to life.
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Shibori at Prospect Harbor Methodist Church
Japanese Tie-dyeing, or Shibori, is an ancient Japanese way to dye textiles, creating fabulous patterns on cloth, quilts, pillow covers, sheets, whatever – let your imagination go crazy! Shibori utilizes folding, binding, twisting, bunching (with rubber bands), and stitching (with thread) cloth, and then dyeing it.
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Woodturning I at Summerer Studio
Introduction to the modern wood lathe. Basic techniques covered and participants will leave with a useful wood turned item.

9:00 AM - 4:00 PM: Painting Portraiture from Photos at Combs Studio
This one-day painting class, Portraits in Oil, is designed for individuals with some experience in using oil as a medium. Throughout the course, participants will work from a large printed photo or an iPad image. The class will focus on painting portraits on canvas panels. The course will commence by teaching participants how to create a monochromatic value study, also known as grisaille, which will serve as the foundation for the subsequent color work. Participants will learn various techniques and approaches to effectively capture the likeness and essence of the subject.
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Acrylic Painting: Free your Imagination! at Prospect Harbor Methodist Church
Be Messy - Have Fun! Take a giant step out of your comfort zone and experiment with the idea of creating and destroying as we paint with only red, blue, yellow, black and white acrylic paint using our hands, fingers, and old brushes. Our stream-of-consciousness process will look for the unexpected, constantly changing direction to find surprising outcomes.
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Sketching, Drawing and Doodling - Healthy Diet for the Visual Creator at whoPaints Studio
These 3 skills round out the practice of seeing: sketching the visceral recording of what is seen, drawing the scientific objective understanding and doodling the 'what if' exploration of what can be. Together they help us truly feel the objects we want to depict.

This introductory course is perfect for individuals with no or minimal experience in using oil paint. Through the medium of still life, you will have the opportunity to explore and understand form, color, and value, while also learning the art of composition. By the end of the class, participants will be able to take home their very own masterpiece, created within a single day of dedicated work.

By asking, as one mixes up a color, is it warmer or cooler, lighter or darker a painter can make oils glow avoiding the chalkiness impasto often creates! Learning to see these subtle shifts in hue can bring so much life to a painting!

A Speed Dating Event in a retirement community makes for lots of laughs and maybe even some romance as these seniors get to know more about one another.
Merle Bragdon has been involved with community theater since 2011 as an actor and director. Getting to Know You, Speed Dating in a Retirement Community is Merle’s first full-length play. He and wife Joan live in Lamoine.

Students will explore the art of working with clay as a form of meditation. Drawing inspiration from the hand building techniques of renowned artist Paulus Berensohn, students will have the opportunity to slow down, relax, and tap into their creativity. They will learn how to use nature forms to imprint and inspire their clay creations. They will also be introduced to hand building techniques for creating both round and thin forms. However, the focus of this class is not on achieving technical perfection, but rather on enjoying the zen of being with clay in a supportive community. 9:00 AM 12:00 PM: Color Theory at Schoolhouse
Color theory is the art of combining colors based on the color wheel which contains the primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Color theory helps to determine which colors look good together and goes beyond just guessing color combinations. How colors relate to each other are critical skills needed by artists, craftspeople, designers, etc.
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Acrylic Pour Painting at Schoolhouse Tent
In this class, the paint is poured onto the canvas and spread by moving the canvas around. The fluid paint will blend the colors and create unique patterns and textures. Abstraction is the key here. Everyone can express their inner creativity as we watch beautiful designs take shape on the canvas.

Fiesta Global is an invitation to dance around the world, bringing together rhythms from Latin America, encapsulating a message of global citizenship. It is a multicultural musical celebration! Kids and families will join in the fun as they learn about different musical genres through dance, storytelling and songs, traveling with Flor to the countries where the rhythms were born. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Plein Air Tonal Drawing at Combs Studio
In this 4-hour class, students will have the opportunity to explore the art of capturing values and masses in outdoor settings. Rather than focusing on specific objects, the emphasis will be on developing an understanding of light and shadow and translating that onto the paper. This is a great preparation for learning to paint landscapes in any medium. Using charcoal as the primary medium, students will learn techniques for effectively representing tonal values and capturing the essence of the scene.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Madou Sidiki Diabate and Salif Bamakora: Kora Duets at Hammond Hall
Join us for an experience of the history, power, magic and guidance of the West African Kora with world renowned 71st-generation virtuoso Madou Sidiki Diabaté, accompanied by his longtime student Salif Bamakora, as the duo explore and interpret the traditional repertoire of songs and stories of the Djeli, or Griots, the hereditary keepers of knowledge encoded in music.
Serving for centuries as advisors, emissaries, oral historians and peacemakers, the Djeli maintain the people’s ties to their cultural inheritance and vitality of purpose with a resilient and adaptive cordage of intertwined praise and remembrance. Masterful musicianship combined with glimpses of the rich and storied significance of West Africa’s musical memory enlivened and animated by the harp strings of an ancient tradition still blossoming in the 21st century.

Adding the vitality of human activity to a visual story can add so much! But how to make the figure look like it is animated and not stiff, that it is in proportion to the environment? We will explore a range of techniques to achieve this!

The heart of puppetry is bringing an inanimate object to “life”. We will use found objects to discover how to bring the object/puppet to life through breath, movement, gaze and non-verbal storytelling. No previous fine art/performance experience necessary.

Woks are the oldest and most versatile cooking pans. Learn 4 ways (roasting, steaming, boiling, and stir-frying) to use woks to make great tasting recipes. Those in the know come hungry and bring leftover containers just in case! Chris will have copies of his popular cookbooks for sale and signing.

Learning about watercolor is lots of fun when given the time to "play" with this medium. We'll experiment with watercolors and various brushes, different kinds of paper, and even throw in a little lesson on color theory. Letting your creativity and imagination flow onto paper is just one objective of this class. Learning can be enjoyable if we just let ourselves have a little play date every now and then.

This class will focus on learning about different kinds of fibers and what we can create using them. For example we'll learn about Japanese braiding and make felted fiber bowls, creating fuzzy wuzzy candles! Learn to draw anything using the ancient Abenaki double curve pattern. SEE how the French borrowed our Abenaki patterns to decorate their castles and fashion, HEAR how our music influenced jazz, SING a medicine song to connect you to the Creator. We will make our own paint from berries. This is an interdisciplinary celebration of creativity.

In this hands on class, we'll learn about Henri Matisse and how he created his artwork focusing on the collages he developed later in his life.
