Will resume next Wednesday at 10:30am
All ages
Join us around the story time rug where we gather to sing songs, read stories, learn rhymes, move our bodies and engage in crafts that explore winter themes. Story time is for all ages and best suited for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their families and care providers.
Pre-K to 3rd grade
Designed to support young children with their reading, Reading Buddies pairs your child with a Hotchkiss School student to be the older "buddy," eager to help the younger child practice their reading. The idea and the hope for the emerging readers is that connecting with another, older "kid" is a treat in itself, and that reading aloud to a "kid" is low-pressure. At the same time, the student volunteer (age 12-18) serves as a reading mentor, demonstrating how to stay calm while reading and how to conquer reading difficulties. The buddy will ask questions about the text and have a basic understanding of assessing and helping with reading comprehension.
Younger readers can meet their older "buddy" in person on the Hotchkiss campus, over ZOOM or here at the library. Whatever is most convenient for you and your family!
Kindly complete this form to be paired with your "buddy" today and enjoy a mentorship program that has also resulted in many life long friendships!
Friday, January 12th, 1 to 4PM

Raise your hand if you remember the D.E.A.R old days of
"Drop Everything and Read"? Typically celebrated in April, any month or day of the week is ideal to get lost in the world of books. We invite you to join us at the library for tea, finger sandwiches and petit fours, and books, books, books
in warm snuggly nooks!
Weekly, by appointment
High school volunteers will be matched with a middle school-aged student to work on a subject that the student needs help with. Tutors will be matched with kids based on what they are confident with and the kids' needs. Tutors work weekly with their paired students either online or on The Hotchkiss campus anywhere from 30-45 minutes.
