Schools and Libraries

From: Stratford LibraryThe Stratford Library has announced that Circulation Department Assistant Gawain Mosher, is the recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) 2025 Century Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship funds services or accommodation for a library school student with disabilities admitted to an ALA-accredited library program.
Mosher says their “passion for librarianship began when they worked as an undergraduate student in the college library. It was at this library that they understood that their skills with organization, research and reading could be used for more than a basic education. The skills could be applied toward helping people in the library.” After graduation, Mosher worked at a public library providing services to those who relied on the library for a variety of resources. Mosher says, “Providing these services to patrons was more fulfilling than any work they had ever done.” This realization led Mosher to make the decision to become “an educated, official librarian.”
Mosher plans to use their library degree to “pursue a career path in a cultural heritage institution that will allow them to preserve and reinterpret history through an anti-imperial lens, apply archival research strategies for positive outcomes in the world, support their community with resources designed to help anyone in need, improve access to information and education, and reinterpret colonialist narratives of the past.” They will be attending Queens College (Queens, NY).
