OCALA, Fla. (Dec. 28, 2023) – The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is excited to announce a new downtown entertainment showcase, the Sunset Songs Series, to be held Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Downtown Square, 1 SE Broadway St., 6 to 8 p.m. This series will be hosted once a month on Wednesday nights, January through May, and will feature local and regional artists playing original music ranging from funk, blues, reggae and country.

The Jacksonville-based band Honey Hounds will kick off the series. The Honey Hounds are known for their heavy-hitting yet soulful renditions of the blues, but funk, rock and pop influences radiate throughout their catalog. For more information about the Honey Hounds, check out their website http://honeyhoundsmusic.com/ or their social media @HoneyHoundsMusic on both Facebook and Instagram.

The Lee Boys will continue the series Wednesday, Feb. 7, and are considered one of America’s finest African American sacred steel ensembles. “Sacred steel” is described as an inspired, unique form of Gospel music with a hard-driving, blues-based beat. The musical genre is infused with rhythm and blues, jazz, funk, hip-hop, country and ideas from other nations. The Lee Boys bring their joyous spiritual sounds to the stage where dancing, shouting out and having fun are essential parts of their tradition. They’ve performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and will continue influencing audiences worldwide. For more information check out their website www.leeboys.com or their social media, Facebook @theleeboysnew, or Instagram @theleeboys.

Additional artists and dates will be announced soon. All concerts are free to attend, and guests are encouraged to bring their chairs. Additional information may be found on the event website at www.ocalafl.gov/sunsetsongsseries
