We need your help! The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program District 12 in Geneva, St. Charles, and western Kane County is looking for volunteers to provide free, in-person tax preparation assistance this upcoming season.
Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-run tax program, serving people who might otherwise struggle with the complicated U.S. tax code. Without help, many taxpayers overpay, turn to costly services, or don’t file at all — missing out on credits and refunds they’ve earned.
Last year alone, 27,771 Tax-Aide volunteers at 3,600 sites nationwide helped more than 1.6 million taxpayers receive over $1.2 billion in refunds. That’s impact!
Now, we’re looking for new volunteers to join us. No prior tax experience is required, and you don’t need to be an AARP member. Volunteers come from all backgrounds. Training is provided through IRS and AARP certification programs, with flexible self-study and local sessions in December and January.
During the tax season (February through mid-April), volunteers typically serve two days a week, helping community members file accurate returns and avoid missing out on valuable credits and deductions. Even modest refunds can make a big difference — especially for older adults and families with limited income.
Volunteering with Tax-Aide is a meaningful way to give back to your neighbors, and many find it a deeply rewarding experience.
