Sturgeon Bay, WI (July 11, 2025) - Third Avenue PlayWorks (TAP) is proud to announce its upcoming production of The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow, from the movie by Alfred Hitchcock. The third show of the 2025 season at Third Avenue PlayWorks is sponsored by George and Natalie Gorchynsky and Sandy Zingler. This play runs from July 16 to August 10, 2025, featuring performances by Rudy Galvan, Charlotte Foster, Karen Estrada, and Dan Klarer.

The 39 Steps is two hours and fifteen minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action and one fifteen-minute intermission with concessions available. In this wonderfully-inventive parody of the 1935 adventure film, the entire plot is reenacted by a cast of only four actors, giving this tale a comic twist. Follow the adventures of our handsome hero, Richard Hannay (complete with stiff upper-lip) as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women. Thus Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller is brilliantly and hilariously recreated for the stage!

The 39 Steps is a high-flying comedic tour-de-force,” says Jacob Janssen, Artistic Director. “I’m so excited to have Karen Estrada, Dan Klarer, and Charlotte Foster back on our stage. Audiences may remember them from previous productions such as Boeing, Boeing, The Mystery of Irma Vep, and Jeeves Saves the Day. I’m especially thrilled to introduce Rudy Galvan as Richard Hannay, making his Door County debut.”

In conjunction with the production, TAP is partnering with local nonprofit, The Sturgeon Bay Band Parent Organization, for a Pay-What-You-Will Preview on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. This organization supports the band program by helping with events, assisting directors with tasks to keep the band program up and running. All fundraisers help support scholarships for private lessons, band camps, and other curricular enhancing band activities. Those interested in attending the preview to support this organization, may arrive as early as 6:30 p.m. on the evening of the performance for general admission seating. Space is available on a first come, first served basis. Donations may be made in cash or with checks made out to Third Avenue PlayWorks. Half of the proceeds will benefit this show’s Community Partner.

The production at Third Avenue Playworks is directed by Mary MacDonald Kerr with scenic design by Steve Barnes, costume design by Leslie Vaglica, and lighting design by Trey Brazeal, sound design and composition by Joshua Schmidt, props design by Haley Cranstoun, and production stage management by Kelsey Brennan York.
