The Museum of Nature & Science and Sigma Xi present “Science Café – Sustaining Aquifers through Stressful Times,” with guest speaker Frank A. Ward, Ph.D. Dr. Ward joins us from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business, Water Science and Management Program, at New Mexico State University, Tuesday, May 16 at 5:30pm. “Science Café” is free and open to the public.

Aquifers supply water to millions of farms, thousands of cities, and billions of people worldwide. Water use and economic activity in aquifer-dependent regions, like much of New Mexico, can only be sustained if groundwater aquifers are stable. Dr. Ward will address the question of how water scarce areas can reduce aquifer depletion while supporting the range of economically and institutionally important uses of groundwater like agriculture.
Dr. Ward is Distinguished Achievement Professor and Western Agricultural Economics Association Fellow of water economics and policy in the department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business at New Mexico State University. His research and teaching emphasize management, conservation, and economically efficient development and use of water resources and climate adaptation, with special emphasis on irrigated agriculture.

The Museum of Nature & Science is located at 411 N. Main Street and is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1. For additional information, visit the website at: https://lascruces.gov/museums or follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @LCMuseums.
