March 8, 2023
From: The Plaza Arts CenterLast Thursday, The Plaza’s 500-seat theater was completely full. The audience was gathered to see One Night in Memphis — a tribute group to Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.
The night started out with some Carl Perkins songs. Blue Suede Shoes echoed across the stage and the audience remembered the songs from yesteryear. Next came the rockin’ piano guy, Jerry Lee Lewis. When we say the crowd was excited, they were excited. We had dancing in the seats, feet tappin’, and even Jerry Lee Lewis’s feet grazing across the keys. Once the crowd caught their breaths, Johnny Cash was welcomed to the stage. Performing his iconic songs, the audience sang along. After the first three legends took the stage, Elvis Presley came on next.
This was truly the show stopper. Elvis had the crowd going. Ladies were swooning, everyone was dancing and the entire audience was mesmerized by the performers. Rounding out the night, the four legends sang together — making their mark on the audiences’ minds.
One Night in Memphis proved to be a great night at The Plaza. The sold out show marks the third performance of the 2023 entertainment season. The Plaza is celebrating 15 years in 2023 and everyone is invited to join in celebrating. Next up at The Plaza is The Odd Couple, performed by PAPA, Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts. This play will take place April 20-23 and tickets will be on sale soon at plazacenter.org.
