Three Shows on the Horizon

Having sold-out his entire run in our 4-Star Solo Show Festival last June, Provincetown-based writer/performer Cody Sullivan returns this weekend with his dazzlingly hilarious and heart-felt solo show, Town Meeting.

On Sept 20, 21 & 22, Sullivan will again take us on the keenly observed and breathlessly funny whirlwind journey that is Town Meeting – with myriad characters, peculiar democratic proceedings, neighbors' conflicting agendas, and all the head-scratching logistics that Provincetown’s citizens must comply with at Town Hall’s annual spring business meeting. From the Town Manager to the Moderator, to the three young kids taking a Civics in Action class, to the lady begging to save the tree (!!), the only place you’ll find more characters than Sullivan's play is in the actual annual Provincetown Town Meeting itself!

A not-to-be-missed crowd-pleaser, performances of Town Meeting are this Fri, Sat & Sun at 7pm. Click on the link for your tickets today!

Rehearsals Start for The Fade-Away Advantage

Speaking of plays that take place in Provincetown, we’re honored to be presenting the world premiere of P’town playwright Meryl Cohn’s beautiful new play about friendship, The Fade-Away Advantage, which began rehearsals last week.

The story of Michaela and JoJo -- who’ve gone from being youthful lovers to creating decades of memories as life-long friends -- Cohn’s play finds the pair on a BFF holiday-weekend in a cottage in Provincetown. Both women at a crossroads, they sort through memories, laughs, and the next chapters in their lives until they come upon an important question that has long hinged their bond: How far would you go to keep a promise to a friend?

Helmed by the excellent director Rebecca Berger (Tiny Beautiful Things, What the Constitution Means to Me), the play’s immensely talented cast of four are mostly new to our stage! So, we’re excited to introduce you to D’Arcy Dersham, Susan Lambert, Janet Geist-Moore, and the return of Nathaniel Hall Taylor (last seen in August: Osage County). Our ace production team includes scenery by Ellen Rousseau, costumes by Carol Sherry, lighting by Stephen Petrilli, and stage management by Sami Parazin.

In describing the meaning of the title of the play, Lambert, who plays JoJo, says of long-time relationships, “in the human experience, sometimes there’s a strong pull to slowly disappear -- in order to reduce the shock of intense suffering, or looking back at what we lose.” Ultimately, though, Lambert hopes audiences seeing The Fade-Away Advantage will agree that “we are all complex. [And] love is how we connect to our own spirit, and to others, so that we can keep swimming the river. The river of life and death that will flow no matter what.”

Running October 3 thru 20, The Fade-Away Advantage is our fourth major production of the 2024 season. The show is included in our yearly subscription package. Subscribers are encouraged to start reserving their dates to see this beautiful, funny, and loving new play. Meanwhile, single tickets have also gone on sale. So, click on for yours now!

Auditions for Almost, Maine

From 5:30-9:30pm on Wed, Sept 25 and Mon, Sept 30, we’re holding open auditions for our final show of the year, John Cariani’s Almost, Maine. I’ll be directing, and I’m looking for a large cast of 10-16 non-union performers, men and women ages 18-70, to play a host of rural New England characters who inhabit this quirky romantic comedy about connection and community which all takes place on a single snowy night in the tiny mythical town of Almost, Maine.

Auditions for Almost, Maine will be held at our playhouse at 238 Bradford Street in Provincetown, MA. Along with a wide age-range for the cast, I especially encourage teenagers, BIPOC performers, as well as trans and non-binary performers to audition.

Folks will be seen on a first come/first serve basis. Sides from the script will be available to be picked-up at the Provincetown Theater during business hours starting Wednesday, Sept 18, as well as at the auditions.

If cast, each actor will receive a modest honorarium for their participation in the production. Rehearsals begin in mid-October, and are scheduled around actors’ best availability, with rehearsals mostly occurring evenings during the week and afternoons on the weekends. Almost, Maine will play Thursdays thru Sundays, Nov 21 thru Dec 8. (No performance on Thanksgiving.)
