The Provincetown Theater Newsletter - October 2022

From: The Provincetown Theater

Dear Friends,

October is coming to an end, as is our fourth production of this season, The Humans. If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, you’ll want to make time to do so before it closes on Sunday. The Provincetown Independent called this Cape Cod premier “a gift.” We couldn’t agree more!

In other news, we’ve been busy behind the scenes, as you will read in the first update from our new Managing Director, Josh Garneau. We’re also actively seeking new members to join the leadership team of the Provincetown Theater Board of Directors. We have a special announcement about Giving Tuesday that you can find below.

In closing, even though our calendar year is drawing to an end, our work will continue both on stage and off as Provincetown’s only year-round theater company. Your ongoing support is what will ensure that can happen.

With Gratitude,

An Update from Josh Garneau

We are nearly four months into my time as the first-ever managing director of the Provincetown Theater. I’ve had a chance to settle in, and now that I know the Theater better, I can say that it is even more wonderful than I imagined. I’ve found an incredible organization with a dedicated staff and Board, regular volunteers, and a community of people who truly love this Theater. Over the last few months, I’ve been able to get familiar–to peek behind the curtains, so to speak.

At its heart, the Provincetown Theater is where our community can create and watch great theater. But it is also a nonprofit organization with a mission. A few weeks ago, we held a strategic planning retreat, where we began a process that will ultimately guide our work over the next few years. The Board and staff came together to look deeply into the organization and discuss what we want to be in the future. It was inspiring to see so many invested people in a room, actively working to craft an even brighter future for the Theater.

While we are still working on the plan, there are several things we do know. We plan to extend and broaden our community outreach to connect people from all backgrounds. We want to use our resources, knowledge, and physical space to engage, assist, and entertain the community. We want to strengthen our financial position, invest in our staff, update the building, and create an environment where everyone of every background is welcome and valued for who they are and what they bring to the table. And we want to do it all in a way that continues to celebrate the rich history and beauty of American theatrical voices.

There is an enormous amount to do to get us to our next stage, and a wave of excitement and enthusiasm pushes us along. I am deeply excited about the journey that the Provincetown Theater is starting to take, and I am glad that you’ll be with us as we go.

Josh Garneau,

Managing Director

Provincetown Theater in the Media!

In case you missed it, Provincetown Theater’s fourth production of this season, The Humans, was featured in Broadway World and the Cape Cod Times! The Times’ review called The Humans “Engrossing” and “Impressive”, and Provincetown Magazine says “It’s a great time to see The Humans. The Production will have you reflecting on your own family dynamics and what it is that makes us forget our relatives are only human.”

The Humans closes this weekend and tickets are still available! Run, don’t walk, to see the show that PTownie magazine calls “magnificent.” See you at the show!

Save the Date for Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is right around the corner! We invite you to join the Provincetown Theater on November 29th, along with tens of thousands of other organizations and millions of donors to make this, the largest single day of philanthropy around the country, the most successful one yet.

Here’s the thing: we know there will be many worthy organizations asking for your support during this giving season. Small, community-driven organizations like Provincetown Theater are the beating heart of the arts in the U.S., and we quite literally would not exist without your support. This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to open your hearts and your wallet and give generously to ensure that the voice of American theater in all its diversity will continue to have a home in our community.

We Want You ... To Join the Provincetown Theater

Are you looking for a way to get involved in the Provincetown community while giving back in the process? Look no further! The Provincetown Theater Foundation Board is actively recruiting new members who are enthusiastic about guiding our growing organization’s strategy, vision, and governance and ensuring its financial health as part of this volunteer team.

We have seen significant growth this year, going from six to ten members–and we’re not finished yet. Ideal candidates will have a background in key areas, including business and finance, development, donor relations, and/or marketing and public relations. Prior experience as part of a nonprofit board is preferred but not required.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit questions or a letter of interest and resume to [email protected] with [email protected] CC’d.
