Extremists see Hogan as key to retaking control of the Senate and pushing forward an anti-abortion rights agenda
On Thursday, September 12th, anti-abortion rights extremists will gather in Tennessee – which has one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country – to raise money alongside Republican Larry Hogan for his campaign to flip control of the U.S. Senate over to Republicans who want to ban abortion nationwide.
The fundraiser is headlined by anti-abortion rights Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, both of whom support banning abortion nationwide, voted against federal protections for IVF, and celebrated the Supreme Court’s ending of Roe v. Wade – a decision that triggered a near-total abortion ban in Tennessee. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, who signed the state’s extreme abortion ban, will also be in attendance.
Hogan has a track record opposing abortion rights and has come under fire in recent weeks for calling Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointees “incredible justices” mere months after they helped overturn Roe and empowered states like Tennessee to ban nearly all abortions without exceptions for rape or incest.
From Maryland Democratic Party Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly: “Republicans agree: they need Larry Hogan in order to take control of the Senate and push forward an extreme, anti-abortion rights agenda. That’s disqualifying to Maryland voters.”
