From: Tibbits Opera Foundation and Arts CouncilCOLDWATER – From bold abstract or landscape paintings, to beautiful de-saturated photographs, and a full variety of sculptures and subjects, Arts Alive invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit their interpretations of “Black & White” in their upcoming themed gallery show to be displayed at Tibbits Opera House January through March.
While the gallery theme is “Black & White,” it is up to the artist to interpret exactly what the phrase means to them.
Tibbits Operations Director and Arts Alive member Stephanie Burdick said, “Color shows such as this have tended to have a larger body of work entered since some people find it to be an easier theme. Because art is so subjective, you could literally put up a blank white canvas. Hey, it worked at the Guggenheim; why not here?” she laughed.
Artists may submit up to three pieces at $5 per submission. Paintings, photographs or drawings should be ready to hang using hanging wire. Sculpture or other mediums are accepted and encouraged as well. Prizes will be awarded to the top artists based on audience votes. Artists may also sell their work on commission.
To be included in this art show, artists should drop off all pieces at Tibbits’ Administration Office at 93 W. Chicago St before 5pm Monday, January 23. “Black & White” will be displayed in the lower level art gallery at the historic Tibbits Opera House, located at 14 S. Hanchett St. in Coldwater MI.
The art gallery currently features “Seasons of Love” exhibit. The exhibit may be viewed during events at Tibbits and by appointment. There is no admission charge for the gallery and visitors are encouraged to vote for Best of Show.
The gallery shows rotate approximately every eight weeks. Other 2023 exhibits include “Wild Things,” “Decades,” “Cardboard Creations” and “Miniatures” along with the annual Kids’ Art Rocks! student art contest. For additional details of these exhibits, or to become involved in Arts Alive, call Matt Biolchini at Tibbits at 517-278-6029 or visit the Arts Alive Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Arts-Alive-Coldwater.
