‘La Zona’ Planning Project Ready for Community Feedback
Open House on Monday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m.

After several months of planning work, “La Zona” conceptual plans will be rolled out in February.  “La Zona” is considered to be the “Heart of Avon” and is located at the crossroads of Harry A. Nottingham Park and the Town core.  La Zona is Avon’s core civic area including the Recreation Center, old Fire Station site (aka 351 Benchmark), and the Pedestrian Mall between the Season’s Building and Avon Center.  The Town is seeking feedback on conceptual plans starting with an Open House on Monday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Avon Town Hall.  A community survey will be launched the same day. 

Conceptual plans reveal several expansion possibilities for the Recreation Center, ranging from a new weight room, functional fitness space and multi-use child watch, all  to an eight-lane competition-sized pool expansion.  Preliminary concepts for the 351 Benchmark property include a skate park or a community building that could offer event and/or art space.

In 2016, Avon’s Main Street Pedestrian Mall was completed. It surrounds the Wyndham hotel and was partially finished to Mikaela Way, but was not completed due to potential adjacent developments. The La Zona plans show multiple plaza spaces and activation elements that leverage existing spaces.
