Utility Assistance for Dedham Residents

Due to higher costs for energy this winter, residents are encouraged to reach out to their heating and energy providers with any questions or concerns. Eversource customers can learn more about Eversource’s extended payment plan by calling Eversource at 800-286-2828 (electric) or 800-438-2278 (gas). Residents may be eligible to apply for a wide range of support for families and households including fuel and energy assistance through Self Help Inc. To determine your eligibility, please call 508-588-5440.

Listeria Outbreak Linked to Enoki Mushrooms

The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections connected to enoki mushrooms. The FDA identified enoki mushrooms distributed by Utopia Foods, Inc. and Sun Hong Foods, Inc. and enoki mushrooms produced by Shandong Youhe Biotechnology Co. as likely sources of Listeria illnesses. Enoki mushrooms are long thin white mushrooms that are usually sold in bunches and are popular in East Asian cuisine.

As of January 18^th, there are three (3) reported Listeria illnesses connected to this outbreak in the US. The FDA recommends that people do not eat, sell, or serve recalled or contaminated enoki mushrooms. Listeria is especially harmful for people who are pregnant, aged 65 or older, or have a weakened immune system. People who fall into these groups are encouraged not to eat any raw enoki mushrooms.
