The Trumbull Police Department would like inform the public of a recent rash of residential burglaries that have been occurring during the evening hours in Trumbull and other neighboring communities. These burglars are breaking into homes and rummaging through them when nobody appears to be home. There have been a few of these burglary attempts which have been halted after an entry attempt has been made, but the thieves discovered that occupants are actually home. In these instances, the thieves have fled. As of this time, there has been no confrontations between these criminals and homeowners, but the police want the public to be aware of these circumstances.

These burglaries are not only occurring in Trumbull, but other local communities are being victimized as well. The Trumbull police are working together with other law enforcement agencies to determine patterns and similarities to in attempts to put an end to these crimes and apprehend those that are responsible. There have been approximately a dozen of these burglaries that have occurred in Trumbull between the hours of 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM over the past few months. These crimes have become more frequent after the recent time change, where the clocks have been set back causing darkness to continually settle in earlier.

There are several ways to help protect residential homes and valuables. Communicate with your neighbors and the police to report any suspicious people, vehicles, or noises. Turn on lights to limit any cover of darkness. Make sure burglar alarms, or video surveillance systems are in working order and set them to active when they detect any motion. Once you are alerted, call the police immediately. Also, secure money, jewelry, documents and any other valuables in safes, and keep them securely fastened in hidden locations.

We urge the public to be vigilant, and look out for each other, especially your neighbors.
