20 years ago, Olympic gold medalist, Andrea Mead Lawrence cut the ribbon at the Grand Opening of the Vermont Ski Museum in its new Stowe location. A group of Stowe locals had a vision of bringing the Museum to Stowe Village, and to house it in an abandoned historic building.
The saying “it takes a village” certainly proved to be true when turning a condemned building into a Museum. A dedicated group of townspeople recruited the help they needed, ran a capital campaign to fund the project, businesses and individuals in Stowe and across the state stepped up to offer as much funding and help as they could. A lot of hard work and 1.4 million dollars later, the ribbon was cut and the doors were opened.
The Museum has experienced a lot of change since opening day, including its name.
The vision of a small enthusiastic group of people, support from the Town of Stowe, State of Vermont, and many beyond our state borders have brought us to this momentous occasion, the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum’s 20th Anniversary in Stowe. We still have a lot we want to accomplish.
With your continued, and much needed support, we offer you our commitment to another 20 years. Please consider supporting our Year-End Annual Campaign by making a tax-deductible donation today.
