From: Village Of LisleThe joy of the holiday season also brings an increase in package deliveries that can become a target for criminals. The Lisle Police Department urges residents to report any suspicious vehicles or activity in their neighborhood by calling 911, and offers the following safety tips for holiday package theft prevention:
- Reduce the amount of time delivered mail and packages are left unattended, or consider having a neighbor or friend hold onto it for you.
- Install security cameras to help keep track of activity at your front door.
- Provide delivery instructions and authorize the carrier to leave it in a specified location that is out of sight.
- Consider using a porch lock box that delivery drivers can access and place packages inside.
- If you're going out of town around the holidays, put your mail on hold at the Post Office.
- Use package tracking to tell you when your package is delivered.
- Consider having package delivered to your workplace/office or friends’ houses that you trust.
- Request a signature for delivery and insure expensive packages.
