Sea Cliff Arts Council

Sea Cliff Arts council is honored to host the artwork of Wendy Csoka for May & June.             You’re invited to meet the artist & celebrate the show at the Art Opening on Friday May 5th, from 6 to 8 p.m. Learn more at the artist's talk on Saturday May 13th, at 2 p.m.

Wendy Csoka grew up in Sea Cliff & has been painting since the 70s. She draws inspiration for her art from the world around her, touching on universal themes of love, compassion & nature. “Everything is asleep until it wakes up, the Art of Wendy Csoka” is the title of the book about her career & art. “These visions of creativity are a positive & powerful reminder of how; once touched by an artist, as I have been by Wendy Csoka’s artist vision, you become not just a fan of her work but an admirer who is ever so grateful that visionaries like Wendy Csoka create in our midst.” (Robert Spiotto, former Artistic Director, Community Arts Programs, Hofstra USA Productions).

In March of 2000, Wendy was presented with a Certificate of Recognition “for your contribution to the world of arts & strong commitment to women’s health issues. Honored by the New York Tate Division for Women during the celebration of Women’s History Month 2000.”

From Governor George E. Pataki: Wendy was invited to exhibit her work at the Governor’s mansion in Albany, NY.    She was also was one of the women selected as the “2001 Women of Distinction for the Fifth Senate District.” The award program recognizes the extraordinary accomplishments of New York State’s exceptional women.

You will find Wendy’s art on her website: wendycsoka.com

Check out our new exhibit at the Sea Cliff Library — A Year of Offbeat Artifacts 2013 - 2014 by Geri Reichgut.

The exhibit showcases the unique manner in which the Sea Cliff community, through a most unusual recycling endeavor, sold donations of unusual, quirky, vintage & practical everyday items to raise money for the Sea Cliff Adult & Children’s libraries.

Join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday May 6 at 1 p.m.

The brainchild of local Sea Cliff resident, Mike Lennon, the Offbeat Artifacts Sale took place every other weekend on the Village Green in front of the Sea Cliff Library & quickly became a very popular gathering place. Photographer Geri Reichgut recalls, from 2013 to 2014, she was there, camera in hand, to document the goings on—Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall.

Geri Reichgut is a Sea Cliff freelance photographer & has taught at local colleges. She is a former student of the internationally renowned photographer Arthur Leipzig.

Geri Reichgut dedicates this 10th anniversary exhibition as a celebration of the life of her dear friend Mimi Leipzig who passed in 2022. Mimi was well into her nineties & her activism in Sea Cliff’s many committees was very impressive. She was one of the core members of Friends of the Sea Cliff Library & never missed an Offbeat Artifacts Sale as their ever-smiling & charming cashier.

Thank you for being here. Keep in mind that for adults the challenge is to tap into that same childlike creativity & maintain it throughout our lives. Let this be a reminder that art can be a source of joy & inspiration for people of all ages, & that we should never lose our sense of wonder & curiosity at any age.

Wishing uninhibited joy and inspiration.

Mutual Concerns Committee:

There are people in our community who go without proper food every day due to a variety of factors including low wages, job loss, injuries, illness, age, divorce.     While all of us are susceptible to hard times, children & the elderly are most at risk & they make up the largest number of people we serve.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. If you have ever donated food, made a financial donation of any kind, or volunteered your time, we thank you. It may seem like a small act to you, but to someone else it can make a huge difference.

If anyone would like to donate food, call Peggie Como at 516-675-7239.

If you would like to make a financial donation, make checks payable to Mutual Concerns Committee & send it to PO Box 164, Sea Cliff, NY 11579
