Katie Kindle's image "Baila" will be included in the outdoor exhibition JOYSOME, presented by Dairy Arts Center and East Window Gallery in Boulder, CO. JOYSOME celebrates our divergent experiences of joy while reflecting on the subjective worlds of this emotion, upon its unique timings and subsets, and upon joy’s crucial functions in human existence. The selected images are exhibited between Dairy Arts Center and East Window as part of Denver's Month of Photography Festival.

Eileen Roscina is a featured artist in Art + Science, a new exhibition at the Arvada Center, through March 26, 2023. Explore the ways that fourteen contemporary artists use scientific concepts, datasets, research, and development to inform their creative work. Art + Science portrays both artistic practice and scientific discovery in new ways, broadening the understanding of both as they experience concepts in science through the unique voice of regional artists.

Heather Patterson recently completed a 12' x 30' mural at the architectural firm KTGY in Denver’s RiNo Arts District, commissioned through Walker Fine Art.  It is a fun addition to the workplace leading clients and partners from a busy working office around the corner to a dynamic kitchen and event area.

Allison Svoboda has been selected as one of the 50 artists for the city of Chicago’s list of prequalified candidates for public art. Her work has been selected for the cities North Center Plaza with more projects to come in the future.

George Kozmon was commissioned to create three works for the Summa Health System’s new Juve Family Behavioral Health Pavilion in Akron Ohio. In conjunction with the opening of the building, Summa is hosting an exhibition of the artists represented in the collection in The Summa Health Gallery, in which Kozmon is featured.

Kevin Hoth's exhibition Plane of Action was reviewed by Ray Rinaldi of the Denver Post recently. The show is on view at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art until February 19th. Read the review here.

Ana Žani? was invited to present her large scale watercolors in a solo exhibition at Laura A. Sprague gallery of Joliet Junior College, Joliet IL. The exhibition, titled Arcadia, is on view from February 6 through March 3, 2023, with a reception and artist talk on February 16, 2023.

In addition to Walker Fine Art, Mark Penner-Howell is now represented by Keep Contemporary in Santa Fe, NM. Six of his paintings are on display at Keep’s current exhibition, The New Vanguard, on view through March, 2023.

Give me the basics.
I grew up in Denver’s ‘burbs, and spent time in my young adult life living in Fort Collins and Boulder. I spent brief spells of life in Brooklyn and Virginia, but Colorado always called me back! I am currently living and working in Longmont, CO. 

Tell me about your art journey.
Seemingly from the time I was born I was always making something.  I was a self-motivated and creative kid, encouraged by summer-long camping trips during which I would work on projects the whole time.

I attended CU Boulder where I initially aimed in the direction of Anthropology, English & Philosophy, and then realized that my direction was art, and never wavered from there. My emphasis was in painting, but I’ve always felt like more than a painter - I crave dimension in my work. 

I attended Art Student’s League and took a hand-carving class, and then was introduced to a marble-carving symposium in Denver called MARBLE/marble. Stone carving engulfed my interest, and I was always trying to combine it with my painting style. I gravitated toward bas relief - creating engravings in the organic realm featuring local flora and fauna. It was absolutely a love affair, until it wasn’t; the medium is just so heavy and so hard on your body. 

I was ready for a transition, and secured a National Park Artist in Residency in Connecticut in 2016. My goal was to take my paintings out of squares and rectangles, with a vision of working with dimension and pattern. That was a pivotal time when painting and sculpture combined and my Biophilia series was born, which feels like the true marriage of both of my artistic styles up to that point.

What inspires you?
I would say nature is my top inspiration, but is that too generic? I have always been inspired to work in multiples in all my mediums - painting, stone carving, installation- because I am interested in the relationship between different pieces- the layers, colors, textures, patterns- and how they come together to form a greater whole. I like the idea that each piece is complete on its own but more beautiful together. I am also inspired by transitions of color and light, shadow.

What are you most proud of in your art career? 
I’m honestly just proud of myself for persevering and believing in my work enough to continue pursuing a career as an artist. I’ve done cool things and am proud of myself going on the adventure. 

What are you looking forward to this year?
My partner and I bought a couple of acres in rural Longmont, and I am excited to settle and make this a home. I am currently most excited about goats, chickens and a garden!
