Watch: Supreme Court Justices Hold the Line for Wisconsinites’ Freedoms During Arguments on 1849 Abortion Ban

MADISON, Wis -- This week, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices Jill Karofsky, Ann Walsh Bradley, Rebecca Dallet, and Janet Protasiewicz held the line during arguments in a case on Wisconsin’s criminal 1849 abortion ban, challenging the right-wing activists fighting tooth and nail to rip away Wisconsinites’ constitutional freedoms.

Gone are the days when the far-right majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court buttressed the gerrymandered GOP Legislature and enacted a wishlist of far-right, special interest priorities. As cases involving the freedom to access safe and legal abortions get their day in court, these fundamental questions will receive a fair hearing before the progressive majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Watch an exchange from oral arguments:
“We said that the 2023 Supreme Court Election ensured that the Wisconsin Supreme Court would decide the future of freedom in Wisconsin, and we’re seeing the promise of that election play out in real time,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “While ‘anti-abortion warrior’ Brad Schimel is running to corrupt the court as a far-right activist, Wisconsinites can trust that the current Supreme Court majority will continue to protect our constitutional freedoms against anyone who threatens them.”
