The week before New Year’s is a time of anticipation, and high hopes for health and peace for all. And a time to be grateful for nature and its winter busy-ness. Start with the Wildlife Trees at the Paisley Bed, where the birds have been feasting for weeks.
Then enjoy a weekend of birdwatching! Haley Scott, birder and event leader for Feminist Bird Club’s NYC Chapter, joins Senior Horticultural Interpreter Jess Brey for a winter birding and garden walk (Sat, Jan 7). Sunday morning (Jan 8), naturalist Gabriel Willow leads our monthly birding walk.
Two-time Grammy® nominated Cuban jazz pianist/composer Elio Villafranca performs pieces from his latest album, Standing by the Crossroads (Sun, Jan 22).
Of course, weekly Public Garden and Conservatory Highlights Walks meet every Sunday except New Year’s Day. But with an added bonus: Gardener Shane Pritchett offers a Tropical House walk (Fri, Jan 27) in the Conservatory.
Starting early in January, the artists in Winter Workspace 2023 residency are settling down in Glyndor Gallery in their studio spaces, and their first Drop-In Sunday is January 29.
The Family Art Project returns after New Year’s, with Winter Retablos, Freedom Quilters of Gee's Bend, Fan for Lunar New Year and Candles, Snowflakes & Stars.
The 2023 Horticultural Lectures open on Zoom (Wed, Jan 18) with the founders of specialty nursery Far Reaches Farm and Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy.
Also opening on January 18—but onsite In Wave Hill House—is Cultivating Eden, a new exhibition of paintings by Rebecca Allan. It, explores the labor and workspaces of Wave Hill's horticulture staff while honoring the devoted care they bring to maintaining the gardens.
Nature-therapy guides Fru Molnar and Cindy Olsen return for a winter Forest Bathing session (Sat, Jan 21).
