January at Wave Hill

In the Gardens
With colder temperatures, many visitors spend more of their Wave Hill visit indoors in the Marco Polo Stufano Conservatory, which is made up of three houses: a central Palm House, a western Tropical House—highlighted above—and an eastern Cactus & Succulent House. Bundle back up and head outside to view the fourth glasshouse, the T.H. Everett Alpine House, north of the Herb & Dry Gardens. Unlike the other three houses, the Alpine House is only viewable from outside. These houses highlight different climates and a collection of floriferous and unique plants with a staggering range of natural colors, shapes and beauty!

Cheers to You!
January is an especially meaningful time to visit our quiet haven in the Bronx. Come for the sweeping vistas, the softly muted colors of winter and the invitation to celebrate a new year in your garden. Thank you for being part of the Wave Hill community! We cannot wait to welcome you here in 2024.

An Evening of Transcendent Sound in Armor Hall

The Bronx Arts Ensemble and Artemis Audio & Ayurveda fill Armor Hall (Jan 21) with a unique performance and various, healing instruments and sounds.

Wellness

Awaken your senses to the new year on a forest-bathing walk (Jan 6) through the winter garden, with certified nature therapy guides.

Art in the Garden

Winter Workspace 2024's first six-week session is underway January 2, and the first Drop-In Sunday is Jan 28.

Hands-On Art-Making

Join us for family art-making, each weekend featuring a different project: Starry Night Sky (Jan 6, 7), Freedom Quilters of Gee's Bend (Jan 13, 14), Weathering a Storm (Jan 20, 21) and Winter Silhouettes (Jan 27, 28). Some Family Art Project sessions include a storytime component.

Garden & Conservatory Walks

Don't miss the first in a new series with Senior Horticultural Interpreter Jess Brey: Plantwise Walks focus on a specific group of plants, encouraging a deeper relationship with some of the special plants that grow at Wave Hill. The first is Bark and Buds That Fight Back, on Jan 31. Garden Highlights Walks each Sunday move to a 1PM start-time December 31.

Monthly Birding

Start the new year with Monthly Birding (Jan 14) with naturalist and bird guide Gabriel Willow as you explore Wave Hill’s gardens, woodlands and the skies overhead. A limited number of binoculars, monoculars and walking sticks are available to borrow at the Perkins Visitor Center. Birding is free with admission to the grounds in January and February!
