Food & Its Healing Effects

Tuesday, January 10, 1:00-2:00 on Zoom

Registered dietitian and author Tricia Silverman will explain why and how food truly is medicine, and how eating strategically may help keep the doctor and medicine away. Learn about food and nutrition strategies to prevent against heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and other chronic health issues. Call the COA at 781-786-6280 to register.

Small Group Fitness Training Series

Wednesdays, January 11, 18, February 1, & 8 10:30-11:30 at the COA

A small group format allows for fitness instructor Michelle Nickerson to address individual fitness goals and focus on correcting exercise form. Some work will be done on the floor but modifications will be provided for those who need them. Mats will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own. Live Virtual Safari Walk at Uganda’s Wildlife Education Conservation Centre

Friday, January 13, 9:30-10:30 on Zoom

The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre was first established in 1951 under the British colonial ruling aimed at wildlife conservation and rehabilitation of animals that were orphaned, injured, or saved from poachers. After independence it was reestablished as an educational center in 1994. In this live tour, we will take a safari wildlife walk around the zoo and meet some of the center’s star attractions, like the lion, lioness, chimpanzees, elephants and giraffes. Bridge Clinic: Supervised Bidding & Play with Anand Lele

Fridays, January 13-March 3, 10:00-12:00 at the COA

Improve your game with this 8-week class designed to target your needs. The format of this class includes a mini lesson on topics selected by students on bidding, play techniques, and some simple conventions. The mini lesson will be followed by supervised bidding and play of interesting prearranged hands to help improve your skills. Prior knowledge of the Standard American bidding system is required. Public input meeting for the design of new pickleball and replacement tennis and basketball courts at Burchard Park

Taking place Wednesday, January 18, 2023, 7 PM.
The Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee is hosting a public input meeting for the construction of pickleball courts and demolition, and reconstruction of tennis and basketball courts being planned at Burchard Park.

Six pickleball courts will be located near the southwest parking area. Several changes have been made to the concept shared last fall. Design is being funded through the Community Preservation Act.

In addition to pickleball, the RMPSC is proposing a demolition and reconstruction of the existing tennis and basketball courts as part of the same project. The courts have experienced excessive surface and foundational cracking. The damage is too severe to be remedied through a standard re-surfacing and can become hazardous in the near future. Doing both at the same time will result in substantial cost savings for the town. Design for this portion is being funded through the Recreation Department enterprise fund.
