Weston Town Hall Happenings for October 4, 2024

Government and Politics

October 4, 2024

From: Town of Weston

Greetings and Welcome to Town Hall Happenings

First Selectwoman’s Opening Note
Weston's 237th birthday is just around the corner! Marc Fontaine, a Weston resident and member of Weston Commission for The Arts, shared some lyrics with us at Founder's Day in 2022. Marc provided this background on the lyrics: "They are about growing up in a small town. And maybe for the time we live here, the author does not fully appreciate how wonderful life is here. As the author comes of age, she/he will head out into the world, the bigger cities, etc. But as the years pass and they become a bit wiser, they will come to the realization that it was our small town and the family, friends and neighbors here, that first inspired them to love and live so well. And because of that Weston, (geographically or symbolically), is a place they will always call home and want to return to.” Here are the lyrics:

"FOR ALL THE PLACES I’VE BEEN
AND ALL THE WONDER I HAVE SEEN
I WILL ALWAYS PINE FOR THIS, AND THESE FRIENDS,
HERE ON WESTON’S GREEN.

AND SHOULD I FORGET
AT THE END OF MY TRAVELS
HOW TO LIVE AND LOVE
IT WILL BE MY EVERGREEN MEMORIES
OF WESTON’S GREEN,
THAT WILL BRING ME HOME AGAIN.

-Marc Fontaine

Weston Road Work – Construction Projects Fully Paid for with Grants from CT DOT and Federal Agencies

River Road Bridge Replacement (near the intersection of Good Hill Road): This project is on schedule and the bridge is scheduled to reopen on October 15, 2024.

Davis Hill Road Bridge Preservation (near the intersection of Valley Forge Road):*Davis Hill Road Bridge will be closed September 30 through October 7 (estimated to open at 10 am on Monday) for milling, waterproofing and paving.  This should be the only full road closure for the remainder of the construction. Davis Hill Road Bridge is slated to be completed by October 15.

Michaels Way Bridge Replacement (at Newtown Turnpike): Flooding from the severe rainfall event affected this work site. Crews made great progress this week cleaning up the site and getting back on schedule. The bridge remains closed and is due to be completed by December 1, 2024.

Lyons Plain Road Rehabilitation: This project has been approved to advertise by the CTDOT and bids have been received by the Town. Pavement and drainage repairs should commence in September. Delays from the Department of Transportation have set this project back from Summer 2024 to Fall 2024. Construction will require intermittent road closures.
