Barnstormer event is a treasury of true tales about golden jewelry passed down through generations of Sayegh’s family from Iraq to Israel to America.

Westport Country Playhouse will present “The Goldsmith,” a solo play by Sharone Sayegh, stemming from her family’s true stories, across countries, borders, and generations, on Friday, July 11, at 8 p.m., as part of the Barnstormer series in the Lucille Lortel White Barn Center, next to the Playhouse. Director is Zachary Prince. Tickets are $20; seating unreserved. The performance is sold out.

“The Goldsmith” tells of the golden jewelry passed down through Sayegh’s family. Each piece of jewelry takes us further along her family’s journey from Iraq to Israel, and then to America, where Sayegh grapples for love as a first-generation Iraqi, Israeli, and American Jew. As she wrestles with identity, belonging, multiplicity of self, and acceptance, this solo play moves, surprises, and inspires the audience to investigate their own stories and legacies.

Sayegh has appeared on the Playhouse stage in “The 39 Steps” and “A Sherlock Carol,” as well as Script in Hand playreadings. As an actor she has performed on Broadway as Bonnie in “Come from Away,” originated the role of Anna in “The Band’s Visit,” which won 10 Tony Awards, and made her Broadway debut in “Mamma Mia!”. She has performed, written, directed, and produced Off-Broadway and regionally, having worked at some of the most prestigious theaters in the country including The Atlantic, Playwrights Horizons, Ars Nova, La Jolla Playhouse, Prospect Theater Company, and The Muny. She has also appeared on television, is a 23/24 ‘The Workshop’ fellow, and is co-writer of the new musical “The Game Boy.” Syracuse University alum, www.sharonesayegh.com, Insta: @sharonesayegh.
