Government and Politics

New Polling Shows Scott is Unpopular and Losing Ground

A series of new polling shows Scott is locked in a tight race and deeply unpopular — with an abysmal approval rating of just 35 percent. Scott is fully behind Florida’s abortion ban, and wrote the plan to raise taxes on the middle class and end Social Security and Medicare as we know them — it’s a self-serving and toxic agenda that Floridians are ready to reject in November.

See below for a roundup of coverage:

Florida Politics: Trouble for Rick Scott? He’s at 35% approval in an R+8 poll

  • Scott is at 35% approval in this survey, with a staggering 49% of respondents regarding him unfavorably.
  • The Senator and two-term former Governor from Naples is underwater in every region of the state.
  • But the real surprise in this survey arguably is his underwhelming performance with Republicans. The Naples Republican has just 59% approval in his own party, against 24% disapproval.
  • Among independents, the landscape is similarly bleak. Scott is at 28% approval against 57% disapproval, suggesting that his base plays over the last six years have hurt him with unaligned voters.

Meidas Touch News: New Polling Spells Trouble For Rick Scott

  • According to a new poll released this morning, Florida Senator Rick Scott has seen his approval ratings tank in recent months.
  • Importantly, Scott’s approval ratings are underwater in all parts of Florida, including in North Florida, where Republicans have historically done well.
  • This news comes as polling has shown an increasingly tightening race between Mucarsel Powell and Scott, along with narrowing margins at the top of the ticket between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

AlterNet: ‘Nervous Senate Republican’ tries boosting reelection campaign with over $1M of his own money

  • Washington Post senior political reporter Aaron Blake noted: “A Suffolk U poll today showed Scott with awful numbers: 35% favorable 49% unfavorable. That’s compared to Trump, DeSantis and Rubio, who were all above-water.”
  • Election lawyer and Democracy Docket founder Marc Elias wrote: “Looks like a nervous Senate Republican who won his last reelection by .1%”

Newsweek: Rick Scott Issued Warning About Florida Turning Blue: ‘It’s Happening’

  • In a post discussing Scott’s campaigning funding, entrepreneur Christopher Bouzy said: “Rick Scott had to loan his campaign money, and it is still the primary. I tried to tell y’all months ago Democrats are on the verge of flipping Florida and the Senate seat.”
  • The claims, which have not been verified by Newsweek, arrive after a USA TODAY/Suffolk/WSVN-TV Florida poll showed that Scott had a net favorable rating of minus 14 points.

FL Politics: 4 points separate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Rick Scott in new poll

  • Could Rick Scott end up as a one-term Senator?
  • Regarding Scott’s narrow 47% to 43% lead, PolCom co-director Kevin Wagner says “there is increasing evidence that this race could be competitive in November.”
  • Questions remain, meanwhile, about Scott’s popularity after a USA Today survey released Monday. The R+8 poll showed him at just 35% approval, and suggested the Senator has issues across various demographics.
  • Yet his performance with Republicans could be most concerning. The Naples Republican has just 59% approval in his own party, against 24% disapproval. Meanwhile, an additional 10% claim to have never heard of the man who has held statewide office continuously since the beginning of 2011.
