Documentary Screening: In Remembrance of Martin

In Remembrance of Martin features personal comments from family, friends and advisors of the late Civil Rights icon the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The documentary includes commentary from late movement leaders Coretta Scott King, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, Julian Bond, Sen. Edward Kennedy, Cong. John Lewis and Bishop Desmond Tutu as well as former President Jimmy Carter and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

This year's Community Read Book is Richard Antoine White's inspiring memoir, which takes readers from the streets of Baltimore to the halls of the New Mexico Philharmonic. This story of perseverance is available in multiple formats at the library.

Documentary Series: Making Black America

Second screening of the four-part documentary series Making Black America; Through the Grapevine, hosted, produced and written by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. This four-part series chronicles the vast social networks and organizations created by and for Black people beyond the reach of the white gaze. Each one-hour episode will be shown on consecutive Saturdays through February 4.

A Conversation with Alvin Hall: Author of Driving the Green Book

Alvin Hall will discuss his new book Driving the Green Book: A Road Trip Through the Living History of Black Resistance. Here Hall describes his travels using The Negro Motorist Green Book, the definitive guidel to businesses where Black travelers could safely rest, eat and sleep from 1936 to 1967.
The conversation with Alvin Hall will be moderated by Janée Woods Weber, an activist, advocate, facilitator, trainer for social justice issues, and Hall's fellow traveler. Registration required.

Stamford Senior Center Community Survey
The Stamford Senior Center is a non- profit organization that has been serving older adults in the community since 1997.
In order to strengthen and enhance its services, the center is looking for feedback. It's asking seniors who visit the center-- as well as those who don't-- to take a brief survey. The goal is finding out more from Stamford's seniors about what they think a senior center should look like, where it should be located and the kinds of programs and services it should offer.

Free Covid-19 vaccines and boosters will be available to adults and children from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Main Library on weekdays. No appointment necessary. Please bring your vaccine and insurance cards if you have them. In addition to primary vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna Bivariant boosters will be available.
This clinic is offered in partnership with the Stamford Health Department and Griffin Health.
Tell Your Story Project
We have resumed our oral history project, Tell Your Story, an effort to capture Stamford's history through the lives of its residents. If you are a long-time resident and would like to share memories of growing up in Stamford, please let us know. We welcome photos and other memorabilia, too.
