Michelson is a school that sets goals and works towards them in a harmonious fashion. Our students are enthusiastic and participate in a wide variety of learning activities.

Albert Michelson School is one of three school in the Vallecito Union School District and serves Murphys, California and the surrounding areas. The school serves students in grades kindergarten through fifth; the enrollment is approximately 320 students.

The school enjoys a very stable community with values that support our many programs for students. Michelson Elementary School was honored as a California Distinguished School in 1993. This designation was based on five consecutive years of high writing scores on the state CAP test and a balanced, comprehensive, and success-oriented curriculum.

The school provides a caring, pleasant and intellectually stimulating environment which prepares the students to assume responsibility for their decisions and actions, think creatively, exhibit social skills, evaluate data and formulate problem solving strategies. Students at Michelson can expect that they will be treated as unique individuals.

Adults who work with children at Albert Michelson School exhibit an attitude and belief that all children can and will learn. Students are treated fairly and firmly within the guidelines of the school discipline policy. In turn, students are expected to treat their peers and adults with respect.
