Mission:
To help nurture artistic talent, to provide a place to teach, learn, exhibit and perform in an environment that bolsters community, to bring together people of diverse cultures for a common cause,The Arts.
About Us:
Our building first opened in 1923 as Louisa May Alcott Grade School, serving the Kansas City, Kansas public school system in that capacity until 1976. The L. M. Alcott Grade school welcomed a lot of children into its rooms in the many years after it opened. Now this old school enters the new century with a new name and a new mission.
That mission is to bring our community together, to draw people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities together, to share the varied talents and treasures of our separate and joint heritages, to provide a place for educational, exhibition and performance programs, and to connect Kansas City, Kansas with the larger Kansas City arts community.
The former classrooms of this charming building are up to the task. The Galleries regularly display exhibitions of the visual arts, from local children's works to those of professional artists and crafters. Our 75 seat theatre, provides the performing arts a home for performances. Many have joined us over the years. Other rooms are in use for classes and workshops in dance, drama, music, arts and crafts. Spring, and summer fall, class schedules will provide opportunities for learning and enjoyment.
Alcott Arts Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation, understanding, and production of the arts, with an emphasis on exploring and sharing the cultural diversity within our community.
