Mission :
To operate, exclusively without profit, for the benefit of Babylon and it's citizens and to create a forum for residents in the community. To provide charitable, informational, and civic activities for all members of the organization thus enabling them to better acquaint themselves with Babylon Village.
History:
The Babylon Village Women's Club was founded in 1991 by KimRose Berry and Linda Posillico. Our Founders walked door to door, inviting women in the Village of Babylon to come to an informational meeting. More than 60 women attended that initial meeting, and the Babylon Village Women's Club was off to a great start! The Club was formed to operate, on a not-for-profit basis, for the promotion of social networking for the women of Babylon Village by providing social, recreational, charitable, informational and civic activities for all members. The Club became a Not-For-Profit Corporation in 1992.
The Babylon Village Women's Club is now a prominent community organization with over 200 members. Our membership is a diverse group of Village residents, employees and merchants of all ages, religions, and ethnicity. The Club has a strong philanthropic purpose. Our fundraising efforts have allowed the endowment of an annual scholarship for a woman in our community returning to school. We also sponsor, in conjunction with the Post Office Café, a 5K run to benefit a local charity. We host an annual Gala Holiday Auction, with the majority of the proceeds being donated to local charitable organizations. We sponsor an annual Garden Tour of local gardens to raise money for Hospice. A few past recipients of our philanthropic efforts include Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, Madonna House, Good Shepard Hospice, F.I.S.H., VIBES, Babylon Village Educational Foundation, Babylon Beautification Society, The Nathaniel Conklin House, Babylon Public Library, St. Joseph's Social Ministry, and the local Food Pantries.
We are also a civic-minded organization, actively involved in the continued betterment of the Village of Babylon. We participate in the Argyle Fair every year. We participate in the annual Merchant Fair and the annual Village Night of Shopping. We donated play equipment and a swing that was placed at the Gil Hans Memorial Pool. We sponsor a Little League softball team. We are strong supporters of other Village organizations, such as the Pilot Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Babylon Beautification Society. We sponsored the Light of Hope ceremony at Argyle Park in remembrance of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
But most of all, we like to have fun!!! We gather monthly for a dinner social at a local restaurant. We have annual Halloween and Easter parties for the children and grandchildren of our members. We have an annual pool party for our members and their families. We have several special interest groups such as the Book Group and Needlecrafters. In the past, we have gone on ski trips, boat cruises to Fire Island, to local theater productions, and played Mah Jong!
The most rewarding benefit of membership is the ability to develop friendships with other women. Membership provides the opportunity to meet women whose paths you might not ordinarily cross, as well as those with whom you have much in common. You can be as active in the Club as you wish, and your ideas are always welcome.
