About Us:
In 1986, a community group consisting of local physicians and concerned citizens noticed an increasing problem of uninsured working poor residents in the city of Virginia Beach. The Beach Health Clinic was incorporated as a 501©3 with the mission to provide basic healthcare to uninsured Virginia Beach residents. Currently, the mission of the clinic is to provide comprehensive medical care to uninsured Virginia Beach residents that are below the 200% federal poverty level. Patients of the clinic generally suffer from chronic conditions, such as, hypertension or diabetes. In the first year of operation the clinic only saw 43 patients. In the fiscal year of 2012-2013, the clinic averaged approximately 1,600 unduplicated patients and provided almost five million dollars of medical care on a meager budget of $322,000.
Fueled on a daily basis by its volunteer physicians, dentists, educators, nurses and staff the Beach Health Clinic embodies its dedicated mission. There are 51 medical volunteer providers, whose specialties include cardiology, neurology, pulmonology, rheumatalogy, podiatry, gynecology, pediatrics, endocrinlolgy, ENT, urology, internal medicine and dentistry. There are also more than 100 nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy students, educators, dental hygienists, medical and dental assistants and lay volunteers that make it possible for the clinic to provide more than 6,000 visits each year.
