Bodega Bay Elementary School, a small necessary school in the Shoreline Unified School District, is located on a knoll overlooking the bay and the Pacific Ocean. The school serves forty students in grades kindergarten through fourth or fifth grade. Serving the student population are two experienced teachers and an array of committed support personnel, community volunteers and imaginative programs. The demographics of the school have undergone a dramatic shift in the past nine years. In 1994, four of 59 students came from homes where English was the second language. In 2003 twenty-one of forty-two students are English Language Learners.
Both teachers are Marin County Golden Bell Teacher Award recipients recognized for their teaching excellence, innovation, creativity and dedication to making every day count for every child. The school was also the only Marin County School to receive a rating of "Honorable Mention" in the competition for California Distinguished School in 2004.
