After meeting for several years in the old "M" Street Hall in Hoquiam, a small group of Lutherans under the leadership of Rev. L. F. Brandes held their first service in Aberdeen on June 29, 1917ç This first service was conducted in the Adventist Church, First and E. Streets with twenty worshippers in attendance. The following June the congregation moved to Aberdeen in order to do more extensive work there.
A congregational organization meeting was held in 1920 and the name "Calvary Lutheran Church" was adopted in 1921.
Rev. Brandes served the church until November 1922 when he was succeeded by Rev. Meyer, He served until August 1924 when Rev. Otto Moeller came. Rev. Moeller served the congregation until 1945.
During this period a lot was bought and a church built facing Simpson Avenue. The rear of the building served as the parsonage. This building houses the Sunday School at present.
Rev. Elmer Muhly of Caldwell, Idaho succeeded Rev. Moeller and was installed on September 9, 1945.
In April of 1946 the house next to the church was purchased for a parsonage.
By 1948 Calvary Lutheran Church had grown to 109 communicant members and 233 souls.
The original church was remodeled in 1948
From 1949-1954 the congregation was served by Rev. Lester Muhly until 1954. During this time the congregation continued to grow and plans to build a parish hall were being made.
Rev. Edward Imme of Palmer, Alaska accepted a call to serve in December of 1954 and was installed on February 20, 1955.
The new parish hall was completed March 17, 1957.
As growth continued, it soon became apparent that a larger church would be needed in the near future. On July 27, 1961, the corner lot and house across the alley from the church was purchased. On July 23, 1963 the lot and a half adjacent to the ones purchased in 1961 were obtained and an architect hired to design the new church. The work proceeded in orderly fashion and the present church building was dedicated to the glory of God on November 21, 1965.
On September 7, 1975 Rev. Richard Peterson from Scappoose, Oregon was installed as pastor.
In September 1979 Calvary's first youth staffer, Michelle Steen was installed.
In July 1980, Daniel Quinn, Calvary's first Director of Christian Education (DCE) Intern was installed. After serving his internship he was called and installed as the permanent DCE.
In 1983, a Christian Preschool was established to provide a Christian based curriculum for four year old children. The class met 3 days a week for half days. In order to provide the preschool with its own facilities the preschool was relocated in the parish house in the fall of 1995. In 1996, a class was added to the Preschool for children 3 years old.
