Canal Fulton Ramrod Club

5614 North Erie Street

In 1808 Jonathon IfHduner came from Pennsylvania and marked the boundary Hues of a large tract of land near Canal Fuhou. with him came Joseph Hob son whose daughter later became the wife of Mitchener.

After marking out the tract of laud they went back to Pennsylvania and Mr. Mitchener got his possessions together and moved to Ohio and built himself a large cabin below a Spring which flowed through his cellar; the cellar was large enough to accommodate all the live stock in time of I ndian trouble.

However the Mitcheners and Hobsons being Quakers they had very little trouble with the red mcu: hi fact two braves by the name of Tomoko and Little Coon of the Leui Lenape tribe and belonging to the Turkey elan were great friends of Joathon Mitchener.

Mrs Jonathan Mitchener always tried to keep a supply of baked potatoes on hand as the Indians were very fond of them. Many matches were held between the white men and the I ndians; The white men almost iuvariably won as they had better rifles and took better care of their guns, along with doinga lot more shooting

Even though the 1 ndians lost the matches they always enjoyed them An I ndian camping ground on the Mitchener place near old beaver dam was very popular.

Today the red man no longer follows the old trail. Which later became the cross-couutry stage lines, and is still plainly visible.
