Township History :
The Charter Township of Texas is located in the southwest portion of Kalamazoo County encompassing 36 square miles. There are over 10,000 people who reside within the township. The school systems are Mattawan, Portage, Schoolcraft, and Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo Valley Community College is also located within the township. The Township offices are located west of Texas Corners (8th and Q Avenue), on the north side of "Q" Avenue approximately 1/2 block. The Fire Department is also at this location. The main entrance is in the rear of the building.
Texas Township was formed from Brady in 1838, and derives its name, doubtless, from the Lone Star State, which even then began to appear as an important factor in the history of the American Republic.
