History:
May, 1989 – The Northern Illinois District, Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, calls Reverend David L. Meggers to be mission developer for southeast Rockford.
July, 1989 – Circuit 16 Pastors and congregations gather to commission Pastor Meggers as Missionary at Large. A core of “mission motivated” families begin to form.
October, 1989 – Family/Core group meetings for Bible study, fellowship and planning.
February 4, 1989 – With a new name, Christ the Rock, the first worship service is held at Eastside Boys Club on Lyford and Mill Roads.
October-November, 1990 – Member families and volunteers from sister Lutheran congregations call 4,000 area homes as part of a telephone outreach.
February 16, 1992 – Christ the Rock is chartered as a member Lutheran church – Missouri Synod congregation.
January-May, 1992 – Needs Assessment Task Force is established to aid the church in long range planning.
October, 1992 - Building Committee holds first meeting.
January 24, 1993 – The Service of Installation of Reverend David L. Meggers as Pastor for Christ the Rock Lutheran Church is held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rockford.
February, 1993 – Architects, Williams & Elliott Associates, are engaged.
May, 1993-May, 1994 – Master Site Plan and First Unit Plans are approved by congregation. Development of first unit planning continues, construction documents are developed, the congregation continues to grow.
May 15, 1994 – Groundbreaking and dedication of the Newburg/Mill Road site.
September 10, 1995 – Cornerstone Service held at the partially completed church building.
November 12, 1995 – Last Sunday worship service held at the Eastside Boys Club.
November 19, 1995 – First Sunday worship service in the new building.
December 11, 1995 – Final building inspection passed, and occupancy permit granted.
