About Us:
Church Creek Elementary is a dynamic and exciting place for students to learn and grow! It is a community school; our physical facility consists of the original building that opened in 1994 and an addition that opened in 2003. We currently house a half-day Pre-Kindergarten program for qualifying four year olds, six full-day Kindergarten classes, and four to six classrooms for each grade level in Grades 1-5. Closed spaced grade level classrooms are clustered into primary and intermediate grade level pods around a large common area.
We have two computer labs. They house twenty desk top computers each to be used for instruction as well as benchmark and yearly testing for students. Teachers and resource staff will be able to bring classes of students to the labs in order to gain instructional opportunities through technology. Students will also be able to participate in computer research based interventions such as; Dreambox for math and Read Aloud for reading.
Our Mentor Teacher will be here four days a week. She will provide resource and support to the new teachers. We have two Reading Coaches. They will continue to provide instruction that will target the needs of students requiring additional support, using research based programs such as; Read Aloud, SOARS, SIPPS, Wilson, Leveled Literacy and Harcourt Intervention. Having two reading coaches will allow each to concentrate on students in primary or in intermediate grades.
We will also continue to focus on Math enrichment and intervention. We have a Math Coach, who will focus on curriculum as she provides resource to teachers and deliver math instruction and remediation to our students. She will provide the intervention and remediation with the use of several research based programs; Knowing Math, Do the Math, Math Achievers and First in Math. The students and teachers will also continue to receive support with the implementation of Harford County Public Schools’ Math Program, Every Day Math.
Our School Improvement Plan is designed to target student achievement and close the gaps that we’ve identified. Professional Learning Communities or PLC’s have been established weekly, in order for teachers to examine and analyze student work. Teachers work together as a grade level PLC to raise academic expectations and to improve student achievement.
We have a strong PTA, which supports our efforts. Volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a variety of ways in our school. This year we will strive to work together as we continue to align the PTA’s vision and mission with the needs of our students and staff.
