City Of Flovilla

308 Heard Street
770-775-5661

The City of Flovilla is located in the southwest section of Butts County and is served by Georgia Highway 42, 87 and US 23. Flovilla, like other cities in Butts County, is bisected by the main Atlanta to Macon line of Norfolk Southern Railway and the town was founded due to its proximity to the railroad and as a transition point for people arriving by train to vacation at Indian Springs, which adjoins the city. The old Flovilla depot is pictured below as it appeared when Flovilla was a busy railroad town. It was founded (officially) in 1885 after three years of confusion over what was Flovilla and what was Indian Springs. It was also known prior to incorporation as Heard, after the first resident of the town.

Flovilla, while small and tranquil, offers many larger city ammenities such as modern, staffed city hall, a beautiful city park and a fire department equipped with state of the art firefighting equipment. Code Enforcement has begun recently and efforts are underway to keep Flovilla attractive and make it remain a desirable place to live.

Because of its location away from the main growth corrodor, Flovilla is historically preserved in many ways. A trip down its main street is like stepping back into time. Large turn-of-the-century homes abound throughout town, complemented by the Old Flovilla Schoolhouse, which remains a historically important reminder of school life in the old days.

Downtown Flovilla is thriving as well, with a popular restaurant, a Post Office and room for more. Old, established churches also are a part of Flovilla's heritage. Just a quarter mile beyond the city limits is Indian Springs State Park with lots of recreational activities and family fun. Flovilla offers peaceful small town living with close proximity to Macon (25 miles) and Atlanta (50 miles).
