Hiawatha celebrated its 50th Anniversary in May 2000. We are young enough to be bold, and mature enough to have a solid feel for the good of the community. We've built a firm and modern infrastructure throughout the city, including on readily developable land that's just minutes to the interstate system and the regional airport.
The founders of Hiawatha, through their ethic of volunteerism, provided our citizens the opportunity to shape and form our philosophy of participatory goverence. Our 6,400 residents treasure that volunteer spirit. The volunteer Mayor, City Council members, numerous board and committee members, and our highly motivated and qualified fire fighters still share Hiawatha's original dream: to make Hiawatha a great place to live, raise a family, and start or grow a business
