History :

Colonial Baptist Church began as a pioneer church planting adventure! Stephen and Marsha Davey, along with their 5-month-old twin sons, came to Cary in August of 1986. Soon after placing an advertisement in The Cary News, the first worship service was held in the band room of East Cary Middle School. To the surprise of family and friends who were praying for this first service, 28 people came from different parts of Wake County.

Nine weeks later, the church was averaging 70 people and began supporting the Daveys financially. In February of 1987, Colonial chartered its membership with 45 people signing on as full-fledged members of this pioneering endeavor.

What began with a simple worship service, and a handful of complete strangers, has continued to develop and expand to the glory of God.

Our first missionary was supported in October of 1987, and by the end of the following month the land was paid off and our building plans for the Tryon Road property began to intensify. By January 1991 giving to world missions totaled $125,000. Our first mission trips for teens and adults took place that summer, and our first missionary conference was held in June 1992. Soon after, our worship center was completed and two morning services began in August 1992. Today, nearly 50 distinct ministries are busily serving, deepening, encouraging and developing the believers as well as reaching the unbeliever for Christ. God's grace has been clearly evident over Colonial's brief history.

History serves as a reminder of where God has brought us. It also serves as a tremendous challenge for the future. After reflecting on God's hand and direction in our past, we can certainly reaffirm our commitment to trust Him for continued direction in the days ahead.

In May of 1993 the church fellowship voted unanimously to relocate our church campus. As a result of God's gracious plan, our Tryon site almost immediately became inadequate to facilitate our growing numbers. Thus, the church body once again demonstrated its pioneering spirit, faith and vision—vision to be a church not only blessed with a wonderful past, but faith and trust in God for an enduring, effective future. As of May 21, 1996, we became the owners of 33 acres on which to build our new facilities. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
