About Us
The Columbus Independent School District is located in Colorado County with a small portion of the district in Austin County. CISD covers approximately 356 square miles and has an estimated population of 8,300 in the areas including Columbus, Rock Island, Frelsburg, and part of the New Ulm area.
Columbus is an agri-business community with a population of 3,916 (2000 census) and is also the county seat of Colorado County. The community is well known throughout the state for its beautiful oak trees and historic homes. The Colorado River winds around the city on the north and east side to provide a scenic background.
Our Student Services include one (1) registered nurse and one (1) nurse's aide that are available for students' medical needs. The district has 10 bus routes that cover approximately 400 miles twice a day. Nutritionally balanced breakfasts and lunches are offered at each campus along with a snack bar at the high school. The district participates in the National School Lunch Program, which affords free and reduced priced meals based on the student's financial needs.
CISD is housed in the city of Columbus, which is conveniently located at the crossroads of Interstate 10 and State Highway 71. Columbus is 72 miles west of Houston, 87 miles southeast of Austin, 239 miles south of Dallas and 120 miles east of San Antonio.
