We recruit adult volunteers who are interested in being a friend to a child or youth. Mentor pairs enjoy activities such as hiking, playing sports or games, eating out, creating art, music or dance, attending sports events or the theater, or just hanging out together.
Pairs are matched through an application and interview process. We require a 2 part training for new mentors to prepare them for their new relationships. After training, the total time required of the volunteer is between 12-15 hours per month for a full calendar year (usually getting together about once a week.) Youth are referred to our agency from local schools, other social service agencies and the juvenile justice system. We do not require any special skills from the mentor; however, there is a minimum age requirement of 20 years.
