About Us

Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc. was incorporated in 1983 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization to provide free, immediate food assistance to those in need in northeast Indiana. In the wake of major factory shut-downs, a group of religious, business, and government leaders, along with concerned individuals, adopted the food banking model from the Feeding America National Food Bank Network to establish a coordinated approach to area hunger relief. Community Harvest worked out of donated facilities until the first permanent distribution and program center was opened in April 1994.
