The first library branch in Desert Hot Springs opened in 1954 in the Little Gallery of the Desert, the library was sponsored by the Desert Hot Springs Improvement Association. Over the next ten years the library moved to different locations around the city until the local Rotary Club undertook sponsorship of the library. They purchased a lot on Pierson Boulevard and began a yearlong drive to finance the construction of a new library building. In 1956 the new building was dedicated and much of the labor on the building was donated by local residents. The library stayed in this location until 1972 when the library opened in its current location on West Drive. The library offers programs for all ages, computers for Internet use, as well as books, audiobooks, and DVDs for checkout.
