Howard County. The corporation schools and central office are located in Greentown, Indiana approximately eight miles east of Kokomo and forty miles northeast of Indianapolis, Indiana. The corporation is in a rural/suburban setting with easy access to employment, shopping areas, restaurants, and recreational activities. Eastern Howard School Corporation has two outstanding schools that help serve the educational, social, and recreational needs of our students and the community.
Eastern Elementary School provides an outstanding academic program for approximately 675 Kindergarten through Grade 6 students. This top-performing school has been classified an Indiana Four Star School and consistently ranks in the state's top elementary schools in terms of student academic achievement. In addition to academics, Eastern Elementary School has a strong fine arts program including elementary band and orchestra programs. Students may participate in a number of clubs as well as elementary athletic programs. All Eastern Elementary School students receive Spanish language instruction.
Eastern Jr./Sr. High School is an Indiana Four Star School providing a quality education to approximately 650 students in Grade 7 through Grade 12. State testing results consistently rank Eastern High School in the top 10% of the state's high schools in terms of academics. Eastern Jr./Sr. High School provides students a strong college preparatory program, outstanding fine arts programs, and a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities. Students also have easy access to dual credit courses through five area college programs, the area career center, and through internship programs. The combination of outstanding academic programs and the numerous opportunities for leadership and social development provide Eastern students a strong basis for success beyond high school.
Eastern Howard School Corporation employs 90 professional/certified teachers and administrators and nearly 100 other employees all dedicated to providing students with the best possible instructional programs, student services, and school learning environment.
The Corporation's instructional programs are based on Indiana Standards and educational research identified as "best practices". Both Eastern Elementary School and Eastern Jr./Sr. High School have three-year instructional plans formulated by School Improvement Committees composed of administrators, teachers, parents, and community/business leaders. These three-year School Improvement Plans identify the goals and strategies for each school, grade level, and subject area.
